LONDON MAYOR Sadiq Khan is reminding Londoners that Diwail on the Square takes place this Sunday. The celebration will be taking over Trafalgar Square and all Londoners are invited.

Diwali – usually translated as the “festival of lights” is a key festival for Hindu, Sikh and Jain communities. It symbolises the triumph of light over darkness and good over evil.

The Trafalgar Square event begins with a display by 200 dancers. This is followed by music and dance performances on the main stage, and comedy turns. These main performances will be surrounded by stalls offering family-friendly activities such as sari and turban tying, puppet shows, yoga, meditation, henna, and dance workshops.

Of course there will be plenty of food on offer. There will be a market and individual food stalls selling a wide range of vegetarian and vegan dishes.

●Diwali in the Square will take place from 1-7pm on Sunday, 27th October in Trafalgar Square. Admission is free and there is no need to book your place. To read the events programme, go to:
